F1 Powerboat racing in the Arade river, Portimão 3rd & 4th May 2008

F1 racing uses tunnel hull catamarans that are capable of both high speed and exceptional maneuverability. Watch them fly in the Arade River!

The tenth Annual Grand Prix of Portugal will be held in Portimao on Saturday May 3rd and Sunday 4th.

F1 powerboat racing is a grand prix style event, similar to Formula 1 automobile racing, in which teams compete in 13 venues around the world each season.

The competition will take place in the Riverside area of Portimão (Zona Ribeirinha de Portimão)

Note: Jonas Andersson of Sweden won the opening round of the 2008 World Formula 1 Championship in Doha, Qatar, 5 weeks ago (29th March). He beat Jay Price of the Qatar Team by 1.76 seconds. Australian David Trask come in at 3rd place.

Jonas Andersson leads the competion with 20 points.

After Portimão the next race will take place in Finland (June 8th June) followed by Russia (June 14th), China (October 1st & 26th), Bahrain (November 28th), UAE (December 5th & 12th) and South Korea (date yet to be announced).

Update (4th May2008):
The race was won by the american Jay Price (of the Qatar Team).
