VOX ANGELIS is a group of professional musicians with a large repertoire covering medieval music and more contemporary works.

Estômbar is a non-touristy pretty little town between Portimão and Lagoa. Accessed within 30 mins from Praia da Rocha, Portimão by train, bus or car.

Jazz in Portimão with the Marta Hugon Quartet

Marta will sing songs from her new album Story Teller at the Riverside area in Portimão, next to the Arade River (Zona Ribeirinha) on Thursday 8th May at 10PM.

Tickets cost 5 euros.

Marta, born in Lisbon, had her first album in 2005 Tender Trap which received excellent reviews.

Marta’s sound is perfect Jazz!

Bicycle Moto Cross: BMX Free Style in Portimão, Algarve, Portugal

Check out the creative way of using bikes that is Free Style BMX!

Demonstrations taking place in the Riverside area of Portimão; near Largo do Dique & the Naval Club (Clube Naval).

Saturday March 22nd 15.30PM & Sunday March 23rd 15.30PM

Also, Saturday March 29th 16.00PM watch the third leg of the Portuguese BMX Race Cup. Taking place at Portimão’s Skate Park.
This is inside Parque da Juventude (Youth Park) and can be reached from Praia da Rocha via Avenida V6 and Avenida Miguel Bombarda.

Note: March is a busy month with lots of activities for young people by young people in Portimão and Praia da Rocha! Organised by Portimão’s Local Town Council.

Other activities taking place at Portimão’s Riverside and Praia da Rocha include:

Paintings by Madeline Sousa at EMARP Gallery, Portimão

The EMARP art gallery is exhibiting paintings by Madeline Sousa until Friday 14th March 2008.

The painter lived for a period in Macau and these oil paintings are inspired by her travels in the East.

Madeline has been exhibiting her work since 1997.

The EMARP art gallery can be visited on weekdays. Opening times: 8.30AM to 5PM.

Location: The EMARP gallery is inside the EMARP building, Rua José António Marques (near the Portimonense Football Stadium).

EMARP is Portimão's water supplier, sewage and recycling organisation.

One of the most fascinating and entertaining women’s football tournaments in the World kicks off on Wednesday 5th March, 2008

THE XVth ALGARVE Women’s Football Cup kicks off on Wednesday 5th of March 2008 at the Algarve Stadium, Almancil near Faro, with Germany playing Denmark (1.15PM local time) and Portugal playing Republic of Ireland (3.45PM local time).

Twelve teams will battle it out in 3 rounds: US, Republic of Ireland, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Italy, China, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland.

3 of the 24 matches will take place at the Restinga Stadium in Alvor. The Restinga Stadium is the football grounds of the Portuguese club Alvorense. It’s easy to get to the grounds by taxi from Praia da Rocha, Portimão or Alvor.

Norway will play at the Restinga Stadium against Italy on March 5th at 4.15PM and later on Friday 7th March at 1.45PM the USA will play Italy. The third match will be the USA Vs Norway at 3PM on Monday 10th March.

The Cup final is on Wednesday March 12 at the Municipal Stadium in the town of Vila Real Santo António at 2.30PM local time.

Apart from Alvor, VR Santo António & Almancil other venues in the Algarve include Lagos, Albufeira, Faro, Loulé and Olhão.

Orchestra of the Algarve: Concert at Portimão’s Igreja Matriz Church – Saturday March 8th 2008

UNWIND at Portimão’s Igreja Matriz Church listening to the Orchestra of the Algarve play works by Luís Tinoco (born 1969), Astor Piazzola (1921-1992), Luís de Freitas Branco (1890-1955) and Joly Braga Santos (1924-1988).

Entrance to the concert is free of charge and the concert starts at 9.30PM.
Note: The church is next to the Alameda Square and close to Portimão’s Shopping Zone
