Women’s 17th Algarve Football Cup is back with the best World players in the tournament, February 24th – March 3rd, 2010

THE 17th ALGARVE Women’s Football Cup kicks off on Wednesday 24th of February 2010 at the new stadium of Bela Vista in Parchal, close to Praia da Rocha & Portimão! Portugal takes on the Faroe Islands!

Twelve teams will battle it out in 3 rounds: Germany, China, Finland, Denmark, USA, Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Portugal, Austria, Romania & Faroe Islands.

Group A features Germany (current World Champion), China, Finland & Denmark.

In Group B we have USA, Norway, Iceland & last year champions Sweden.

Group C consists of host Portugal along with, Austria, Romania & Faroe Islands

Sweden was the winner last year beating the reigning Olympic champions: USA on penalties!

The Cup final is on Wednesday March 3rd at the Estádio Algarve, Faro.

Apart from Lagos, Parchal, and Faro matches will also be held in Olhão, Vila Real de Santo António, Albufeira, Ferreiras & Silves.

36th Cycle Tour de Algarve, “Algarvia”, is underway & ends on Sunday 21st February in Portimão!

The Tour consists of 5 stages starting at Algarve Stadium and finishing in Portimão.

Names like Alberto Contador (last year’s winner), Andreas Kloden, Levi Leipheimer, Luís León Sanchez, Ivan Gutierrez, Robbie McEwen, André Greipel, Gert Steegmans, Thor Hushovd, Bernhard Eisel, Samuel Sanchez, David Millar, David Zabriskie, Stjin Devolder, Sylvain Chavanel, Lars Boom, Vladimir Karpets & Volodymir Gustov will be present.

On Sunday 21st February, at near midday enjoy the arrival of the cyclists at Portimão’s pretty Riverside (near Casa Inglesa café/restaurant & Portimão’s Municipal Museum) as the cyclists complete the Tour and the final stage.

The “Algarvia” covers approx 700 km.

Wednesday 17 Feb: 1st stage, Algarve Stadium - Olhão, 158 km (departure at 10:50; arrival at 14:30)

Thursday 18 Feb: 2nd stage, Sagres (Fortress) - Lagos, 207,5 km (departure at 10:50; arrival at 15:45)

Friday 19 Feb: 3rd stage, Castro Marim- Alto do Malhão, 174 km (departure at 10:50; arrival at 15:00)

Saturday 20 Feb: 4th stage, Cacela - Tavira, 169 km (departure at 10:50; arrival at 15:00)

Sunday 21 Feb: 5th stage, Lagoa (Fatacil) - Portimão, 17 km (individual time trials with departures from midday; arrival at 12:20)

Excitement in the Air: Portimão SkySurf ProTour 2010 – 6th & 7th, 20th & 21st, 27th & 28th February 2010



Head for Portimão’s airfield at Montes de Alvor for the SkySurf ProTour 2010 & Portugal’s Cup Parachute Jumping Competition.

Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February 2010: Skysurf Protour

Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 February 2010: VF4 (formation competition)

Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 February 2010: Freefly

Update: The Freefly competition and the activities during the weekend of 27/28 February 2010 have been cancelled due to predicted bad weather!
