Notes:

‘The Carnation Revolution was a leftist, military-led coup d'état, started on April 25, 1974, in Lisbon, Portugal, that effectively changed the Portuguese regime from an authoritarian dictatorship to a democracy.’ (Wikipedia)

Vitorino is a Portuguese singer-songwriter born in 1942. His music combine his two life-long passions: the traditional music of his native region of Alentejo and his personal style of urban popular song built around his rich, smooth voice.’ (Wikipedia)

Vitorino collaborated with with José Afonso (aka Zeca Afonso) together with
Fausto Bordalo Dias and other ‘political musicians’.

‘Zeca is among the most influential folk and political musicians of the Portuguese history. He became an icon among Portuguese left-wing activists due to the role of his music in the resistance against the dictatorial regime of Oliveira Salazar that triumphed with the democratic Carnation Revolution. In the ensuing revolutionary process, Zeca was a very active musician and continued composing political and folk songs, often criticizing the post-revolutionary changes. Years after his death, Zeca Afonso is still widely listened to, not only in Portugal, but also abroad.’ (Wikipedia)

Filipa Pais is a Portuguese singer with a sublime voice that sings ‘Zeca Afonso’ songs.

Grupo de Cantares do Redondo is an acapela group from the town of Redondo that sings traditional songs from the Alentejo region. Vitorino works closely with this group and was part of the group earlier in his career.

Other musical events taking place in the Algarve with other popular musicians associated with the 25th April & Zeca Afonso include:
