Carnival in the Algarve is a time to have fun and party!

There are festivities and dance parties throughout the Algarve (and Portugal) during Carnival week. The town of Loulé is famous for the most elaborate parades and this year is no exception. Preparations have been underway for weeks. Rehearsals ensure that all goes smoothly on the day! Carnival spirit is infectious and involves everyone. Parades involving children are very popular.

Portimão, Alvor, Figueira and Mexilhoeira Grande are also gearing up for Carnival.

Carnival parades will start on Sunday 22nd at 2PM in the streets of Figueira & Mexilhoeira Grande followed by dance parties (Baile in Portuguese).

On Shrove Tuesday (24th) carnival participants will parade through Portimão starting at 3PM in the Riverside area.

On the same day at 2.30PM the streets of Alvor will be stage for similar folly.
